Black History Month

The explorers are learning about Jimmie Lee Sudduth,
an African American Folk Artist from Alabama.

He is known for using found objects and materials to create his collage style paintings.
He would use dirt, molasses, foil, wood and other things he could find.
I have been asking the students to gather things to bring to art and create their own piece by experimenting with found objects.

Dr. Shwartz, the former CSU president visited the Kindergarten on Wednesday, Feb. 8th.
The explorers created a mosaic by recycling old crayons and gluing them to create a heart with CIS.

Third Grade Art Projects

The third graders have been learning about habitats. The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Nature Tracks came to CIS to present Urban Habitats to the third graders. The students then created their own habitat artwork after their visit to Nature Tracks.

The third graders learned about Eric Carle and how he created collage style artworks to illustrate is books. The students then created their own  2 and 3-d collages.

To give back to the community, the third graders created Valentine's Cards for
Purple Heart Veterans to show their Appreciation and thank them.

To celebrate Black History Month, the students are learning about Jimmie Lee Sudduth, an African American Folk Artist from Alabama.

William Busta Gallery Field Trip

Feb. 9, 2012
Ethan Loderstedt's father, Michael, is an artist and professor at Kent State University. He invited us to the William Busta Gallery where his artwork is on display. He creates 3-dimensional objects and animals out of heavy card stock paper. Michael gave each student a bird template to create their own bird sculpture. The third grade students will be creating their own sculpture in art.
